EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) solution is widely used in molecular biology and protein biochemistry for its ability to chelate divalent metal ions like calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺). This chelation property makes it effective as an anticoagulant in blood samples by preventing coagulation and preserving cell morphology. EDTA is also a common component in cell lysis buffers.
